Naxos combines nature, culture and Greek hospitality like hardly any other island in the Cyclades.

Highlights include the Portara, the historic old town of Naxos and the Venetian castle. But there are also traditional mountain villages, ancient marble quarries, Byzantine churches and, of course, the local tavernas and regional specialities.

BEACHES & WATER SPORTS

One of the best water sports destinations in Europe

Mikri Vigla has enjoyed an excellent reputation amongst kitesurfers, windsurfers and wingfoilers for many years.

During the summer months, the Meltemi wind provides excellent conditions on most days. The windward side of the bay usually offers a slight cross-shore breeze and is ideal for water sports at all levels of ability.

Family beach

Just about 400 metres away is the sheltered side of the bay, with calm waters and a long sandy beach. This side is ideal for families with children and for relaxing days by the sea.

Hiking

Naxos boasts one of the most beautiful networks of walking trails in the Cyclades. Well-signposted paths lead through traditional villages, green valleys, olive groves and the mountainous landscapes of the island’s interior.

Mountain bikes & bicycles

Naxos offers excellent conditions for mountain bikers and cyclists. Several professional operators hire out high-quality bikes and organise guided tours on tarmac roads, gravel tracks and challenging off-road routes.

THE SEA, BOATS & DIVING

Catamaran tours

Numerous catamarans set sail daily from Naxos Town on day trips around the island and to the neighbouring Cyclades. These tours are among the island’s most popular activities.

Motorboat hire

Motorboats can be hired by the day to explore hidden coves, secluded beaches or neighbouring islands.

Diving

There are several professional diving schools on Naxos.

The underwater world offers:

A large shipwreck between Naxos and Paros is particularly well known. The wreck lies in two parts on the seabed and can be explored, in part from the inside, by experienced divers.
